Really Big Love - Devotional

“We love God because He first loved us.”

- 1 John 4:19

Just let this truth sit in your bones for a while. Jesus did not die so we could get to him. No friend, Jesus died so he could get to us.

His love is not dependent on our behavior. He made His mind up before He left heaven to come to earth. He was well aware of what His father was requiring of him and Jesus made the choice that as messed up as we are, He would come to be near us. To bring us to His side. To be with Him forever.       

The love of God has nothing to do with what we have done or ever could do. So friends, take that man-made pressure off of yourself and relax. You are loved by your creator with an everlasting love. A love that truly goes beyond our understanding. A love that reached from heaven to earth.  

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. - 1 Corinthians 2:9

 His amazing love truly goes beyond our human understanding. When we imagine the best day ever it can not compare to what God has prepared for those who love him. There really is no better deal in the world. We simply need to trust and receive all that He has already prepared. 

This world will absolutely bring us trials and pain. We are told that. However, that is not all we are told. Don’t stop at the trial and the pain. Love meets us in these places and carries us through with promises of holy peace.   

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33

Jesus' love brings us peace in our troubles. Hope when we feel hopeless. Strength when we feel weak. Rest when we are weary. Joy when we are sad. His love will carry us all the way home.  

 And all we need to do is receive.
